Herbed Basmati Rice
Ladies,
For those of you who smelled the rice I was heating up for the boys lunch before scooting off to school, here is the recipe (it's from an old edition of Cooking Light)
Herbed Basmati Rice
2 teaspoons margarine
1/2 teaspoon garlic
1/2 cup basmati (or white) rice
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon sliced green onions (don't skip!!)
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon thyme (or oregano)
2 teaspoon parmesan cheese (shredded best but grated ok)
Melt margarine in saucepan over med heat. Add garlic and saute 1 minute. Add rice; stir well. Add water and salt; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 20 minutes or until liquid is absorbed. Stir in onions, basil, thyme. Sprinkle w/ cheese.
I often double and triple this recipe. I only have stuff left over if I triple it or more.

Eggy Update 2
Mommas,
Bruce still hasn't heard back about the "eggstounding news" devotional. Here is a somewhat adapted one that I got off the internet and changed a little. I am still hoping to have the "EN" one by Palm Sunday. I have also attached a neat recipe called "Resurrection cookies" that look very effective.
Egg #1:
Message -- Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. The people waved palm branches. Passage -- Matthew 21:1-11 Item -- Piece of palm branch. Another option for those of you with extra leggo parts or plastic novelty beads would be to place a small plastic leaf in the egg
Egg #?
Message—Jesus wanted his Father’s home used properly
Passage—Matthew 21:12-13
Item—two pennies and dove
Egg #2:
Message -- Mary poured expensive perfume on Jesus' feet.Passage -- John 12:2-8Item -- Small perfume sample or cloth with perfume or a piece of cotton with cologne on it
Egg #3:
Message -- Jesus shared the Last Supper with His disciples. Passage -- Matthew 26:17-19 Item – a piece of Chex cereal; or take clay and make a small bread-like shape
Egg #4:
Message -- Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Passage -- Matthew 27:3 Item -- 3 dimes or plastic “silver” money
Egg #5 (?)
Matthew 27:24 –Pilate washed his hands of the situation
Item--bowl
Egg #6:
Message -- Soldiers placed a crown of thorns on Jesus' head. Passage -- John 19:2 Item -- Small thorny branch, or a large thorn all by itself.

Message -- Jesus was nailed to a cross and pierced in His side. Passage -- John 19:18,37 & John 20:25-29 Item -- A nail

Message -- The stone covering Jesus' tomb was rolled away. Passage -- John 20:1 Item -- A small rock

Message -- The napkin around Jesus' head was lying separately from His linen clothers. He was not there. He has risen! Passage -- John 20:6-7 Item -- A scrap of linen-type fabric
Make Resurrection / Easter Story Cookies with young children.Resurrection CookiesRead the whole recipe before beginning. Try to do it together with the children on the Saturday night before Easter Sunday.Ingredients:1 Cup WHOLE pecans 3 Egg whites1 Cup sugar 1 tsp. VinegarPinch of saltYou will need:Wooden spoon Zipper baggieBowl BibleTape Wax paperCookie sheetPreheat oven to 300 degrees.Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested, the Roman soldiers beat him. Read John 19:1-3Let children smell the vinegar. Put 1 teaspoon into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross, He was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11Sprinkle a little salt into each child’s hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus’ followers, and the bitterness of our own sins. Read Luke 23:27So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup of sugar, a little bit at a time while beating mixture. (See next step.) Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Psalm 34:8 and John 3:16Beat with a mixer on high speed for 11 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God’s eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoon onto waxed paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus’ body was laid. Read Matthew 27:65-66Put cookie sheet in oven. Close door and turn oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and “seal” the oven door. Explain that Jesus’ tomb was sealed. Read Matthew 27:65-66Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus’ followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 and 22. GO TO BED!!On Resurrection morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie! Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Resurrection Day, Jesus’ followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matthew 28:1-9Author Unknown

Easter Egg Update!
Mommas,
Help! The time for the Easter eggs is fast approaching and here's what we still need....praying hands, angels, thorns, hearts. I believe Susan is gathering pennies and Charity is collecting nails. I have a bunch of nicely polished rocks we can use.
Anybody have any ideas? I did check at Gift and Bible and they do not have praying hands of any sort. Does anyone have a stamp or clipart that would work?
Post your ideas or bring them to the next Mother's Morning!
